Google Auto Suggest Meme

January 30th, 2009 Posted in Partners In Crime

Sean Bonner started it and Casey McKinnon inspired me to give it a go.

How many letters of your name do you have to type into a google/browser search bar before it suggests your name correctly?

And.. Once you do type your full name, what are the things it thinks people are most interested in finding about you?

Google Auto Suggest Meme - Full Name

6 letters! Only one letter into my last name… Not bad. No other words associated with me in auto suggest function. First page results in Google include this blog, Drive A Faster Car, Flickr, LinkedIn, Crowdvine, Twitter and WordPress search. Interesting. Note: I did mine on Google’s homepage due to the history in my browser search bar affecting the results.

  • Hey Tess, pretty cool idea.  It took me 9 letters "marc fergu".  Unfortunately; what it suggested was "marc ferguson atlanta".  Not bad, but I have not done such a great job marketing my real name... I've pimped the hell out of my handle, "FergatROn".  I litterally OWN all the search results for it.

Back to "marc ferguson" - top of the list was a YouTube video about another Marc Ferguson, but the others were me: Amazon profile, LinkedIn, Facebook, AWE (Meetup), Vimeo, Plaxo, Pandora, and Classmates.

Switching to "FergatROn" - top of the list is  a girl with a www.fergatron.org domain.  The rest is me: FergyTech.com, Twitter, YouTube, Identica, Laundpad, LinuxQuestions, Utterli, and Last.fm

Wow, thanks for this excerise... it looks like I did good using both my real name and my handle.  The majority of the search results were related to me.  *makes me smile*
